What’s with the title?

Okay, so I get that I am being a bit mischievous with the title but I think it really captures what I hope this blog is all about.

I love how it can be read a couple of ways.

First, “Improvise on Purpose” is about purposefully using the rules of improvisation to respond to particular situations and adapt your current strategy to be successful. From this perspective we will be talking about the ways we can prepare ourselves to be flexible and move with the flow so that we don’t block good things that are happening around us.

Second, “Improvise on Purpose” is about playing with the concept of “purpose” in general. This topic seems to be jumping up everywhere; from Aaron Hurst and his book The Purpose Economy, to TED’s playlist “How to find your purpose“, to Simon Sinek’s Start with Why, to this quote attributed to Mark Twain, “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” Many of us want to find our “purpose” and then live out of that purpose, because then we will be more engaged, more generative, and more fulfilled.

These are the topics we hope to explore, and I hope you will join in the conversation as we improvise on purpose.
